Sketching with Digital Clay: A Monster Head covers Jeff McAteer`s approach for quickly sketching creature heads using ZBrush. In this tutorial Jeff starts with a basic head shape. Then using the Standard Brush he begins to search for the monster`s face. Once the monster is roughed in, Jeff moves on to detailing his creature like only he can. With subtle touches that make the creature come to life.

Planar Tracking Roto (like Motor) in AE

Planar Tracking Roto (like Motor) in AE

http://www.mokey.com/products/motor/

It's a new roto program that costs alot and uses a technology called Planar Tracking to help you roto faster. Watch that quick start video if you're interested (I recommend watching it before watching mine, so you know what we're replicating). I did, and all I could think the whole time was "After Effects can do that just fine".

The basic premise of planar tracking is to match up a virtual plane with something semi-planar in a scene (in their example, the side of a car is one plane, the front is another). Once your plane is tracked to match the thing representing the plane in the scene, your roto, if done on the plane you tracked in, will match up much faster and easier than normal (MUCH less keyframes). In Motor, the virtual planes are hidden under the hood. In AE, they'll just be solids.

So, rather than ramble on about it like I just did, I made a video tutorial.
Like I said, you should watch the Motor Quick Start first. If you watch that and think "holy cow thats amazing I have to have it right now how in the world does it do that i wish i could roto that fast!", then this is the tutorial for you!!

I think it's about 55 Megs, should be Mpeg4 compression. This is fresh out of my screen capture thingy, no additional compression, so if anyone has problems, let me know.
Also, this one has no audio. Most of the time, my audio doesn't line up with the video, so I have to do all this reworking of the audio... I didn't feel like doing it this time, so I just type in Wordpad instead of talking.

AE to C4D

pt_AEtoC4D:
These scripts export data from After Effects to Cinema 4D. This v1.1 update will export normal AE cameras, nulls to show the position of other layers, the comp frame rate, duration and start frame (requires AE 7.0 and C4D R9.6, or greater).
Download pt_AEtoC4D_v1.1.zip

UPDATE: Now correctly rounds 29.97 frame rate to 30 in C4D.

Original After Effects composition:

Resulting Cinema 4D project:

Thanks to Paul Babb, Rick Barrett and Liam Stacy at Maxon, Ko Maruyama, Stu Maschwitz, Dale Bradshaw, Nab, Steve Kirby and Salvador Zalvidea for their help and ideas.

Instructions:
1. Put pt_AEtoC4D.jsx in Adobe After Effects / Scripts
2. Put pt_AEtoC4D.CSC in Cinema 4D / library / scripts.
3. Animate your scene in After Effects using a Camera with Layer > Transform > Auto-Orient set to Off. Animate rotation using the XYZ Rotation properties, not Orientation.
4. Select the cameras and layers you want to export and choose File > Scripts > pt_AEtoC4D.jsx. You'll be prompted to save a text file.
5. In C4D, select Plugins > User Scripts > pt_AEtoC4D and select that text file.

NOTES:
1. This script doesn't export camera zoom. You'll have to set the camera's field of view manually in C4D after import. Check out the test project, which uses nulls as a guide to help line up the FOV.
2. This script doesn't export parented layers.

pt_AEtoC4D_RIG:
I've changed the name and made a minor update to the original AEtoC4D_v1 script which exports Dale Bradshaw's AE camera rig to C4D (requires AE 6.5 and C4D R9.5, or greater).
Download pt_AEtoC4D_RIG_v1.0.zip

See readme.txt for instructions. You'll also need one of the camera rig scripts that are available at creative-workflow-hacks.com:
http://www.creative-workflow-hacks.com/2006/07/13/script-to-automate-rigging-a-camera-in-after-effects/
Or this modified version where position is animated normally, rather than using XYZ sliders:
Download db_autoCameraRig_position.zip

AE ENHANCERS Forum Index
http://aenhancers.com/viewtopic.php?t=653

AEtoC4D research:
To start, there was the request from Salvazalvi and the subsequent export script written by Nab:
http://aenhancers.com/viewtopic.php?t=456
It seems there is a solution for moving position data, but it's a bit fiddly on the C4D end (using ASCII data import) and it isn't working for rotation. So not quite there yet.

Nimpsy posted a similar solution for moving tracking data:
http://maxon.digitalmedianet.com/articles/viewarticle.jsp?id=42002
NOTE: It would be fairly simple for me to adapt the script to pass tracking data if anyone wants it?

Googling on, Simon Wicker posted this solution for Maya cam to C4D:
http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=253099
It uses C4D's Expresso (node based expressions) to convert the Maya camera data into suitable values for C4D. Very interesting stuff, but it still involves the ASCII data importer and some other fiddly steps.

Simon's solution was picked up by Yuppster, who tried to use it to translate AE camera data:
http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?f=47&t=321029
If you read the thread you'll see they also run into problems with rotation, caused by AE's rotation order being different to C4D's.

I decided to worry about rotation later. I wanted a more automatic solution than Expresso seemed to offer, something more like AE scripting, where it just reads the text file, sets things up and creates the keyframes. This meant learning C4D's scripting language, called COFFEE.

Vista 32-bit에서 4GB RAM 설정하기

Enable support for 4GB of RAM (or more) in Vista 32-bit

On a computer that has 4 GB of RAM, the System Properties dialog box and the System Information dialog box may report less memory than you expect. This problem occurs because the address space is limited to 4 GB in a 32-bit hardware environment. Memory may be relocated to make room for addresses that the basic input/output system (BIOS) reserves for hardware. However, because of this limitation, Windows Vista cannot access memory that is relocated above the 4 GB boundary.

Solution: Open an elevated Command Prompt, type BCDEdit /set pae ForceEnable and press Enter.

The pae parameter enables Physical Address Extension (PAE). On 32-bit versions of Windows, PAE is disabled by default. PAE is an addressing strategy that uses a page-translation hierarchy to enable systems with 32-bit addressing to address more than 4 GB of physical memory. PAE also supports several advanced system and processor features, such as Data Execution Prevention (DEP; "No execute"), Non-Uniform Memory Architecture (NUMA), and hot-add memory, so it is also used on computers with less than 4 GB of memory. PAE must be supported by the processor.

On a computer that supports hardware-enabled Data Execution Prevention (DEP), PAE is automatically enabled when DEP is enabled and automatically disabled when you disable DEP. To enable PAE when DEP is disabled, you must enable PAE explicitly: Open an elevated Command Prompt.
Type BCDEdit /set nx AlwaysOff & BCDEdit /set pae ForceEnable and press Enter.

시작> 실행창>BCDEdit /set pae ForceEnable

Mograph Review by C4dcafe

사용자 삽입 이미지

Introduction

MAXON announced MoGraph on April 18, 2006. This was timed to coincide with the NAB (National Association of Broadcasters) Show in Las Vegas which is the world’s largest electronic media show. I don’t think many people saw this coming and also so soon after the release of the superb HAIR module. However when you think about it, this was a very smart move on the part of MAXON. CINEMA 4D already has some foothold in the broadcast graphics market and the addition of MoGraph gives more weight to this. The effects that can be achieved with MoGraph may well make users of other applications jump ship or integrate CINEMA 4D into their production pipeline.

So what is MoGraph? Well it’s a module for CINEMA 4D 9.6 and 10 that allows the easy creation of spectacular visual effects using primitives, logos, text etc. The review will demonstrate examples of these effects and most of the MoGraph objects along with a number of mini tutorials.

MoGraph includes the functionality of quite a few existing CINEMA 4D plugins and some that are no longer available, notably Jenna. In most cases MoGraph surpasses what these plugins did and the usage is generally easier as well. Typically MoGraph works by cloning / duplicating an object with a “Cloner” object. You then apply “Effectors” to create the visual effect and animate parameters. The clever thing is these effectors can be stacked and you can have complex hierarchies of cloners and effectors. This all sounds complex but in practice it’s very straight forward. There’s also a range of deformers that can be applied to objects as well. We’ll explain and demonstrate all of this below.

We aplogise in advance for the length of this review and the time that it has taken to produce it. The module has so much in it and can do so much that we couldn't possibly give people an idea of its capabilities within just a few pages. Similarly to write with any authority and provide examples learning the module does take some time and we've still got a way to go to fully understanding it and being able to utilize everything to its full potential.
